Image I used to trace
(Well my printer is broken so I had to free hand it)
This project took less than 2 hrs and was FREE!
Items used:
Old Burlap rug, paint, pine board, glue
I traced the dino on the back of an old rug with a sharpie,
cut it out and painted it!
My hubby has a stash of wood pieces in the garage.
I found a perfect piece of 24"x36" pine board
(Hope he wasn't saving it for anything..hehehe)
I raided my paint closet and found some white and brown.
I first painted a thin layer of white.....I wanted some of the wood to show through without having to sand.
Then I painted on a brown wash
(water with a few drops of brown paint)
and wiped it off with a dry rag.
I went with the grain of the wood.
I then used the brown to put a few spots on my dino and dry brushed some brown on the edges and a few areas on the board.
Then I just glued my dino to the board with some gorilla glue.
I LOVE the 3-D effect and the frayed torn edges.
I'm telling you the pictures just don't do this dino justice! Check out all the places I party!
Holy moly, you are gonna link this up to my party right??? My son is only OBSESSED with dinos, and this is so flippin awesome,,,, woo hoo.

This is too funny! LOL. I did this same thing for my son a few days ago. I will have to post pics now. lol. His birthday is in July and we are doing his entire room like the PB theme. We are buying the bedding from them, but that mural was a CRAZY price! So, I did 3 of my own. lol. Great job! Yours is way better than mine. lol. I did mine with canvasas that I had from High School and crayola paint pens. lol.
ReplyDeleteNice work! This looks great! :)

ReplyDeleteSuper cute idea, Michell! I like the 3-D effect, too. That's a great reuse of the rug and the stashed wood - and a lot cheaper than PB, no doubt. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to the party. Please include my link in your Thursday party list.
Hope to see you for "Funny Faux Pas Follies," as well.

ReplyDeleteI found you over at Holly's place for Tickled Pink. I have a son who adores dinosaurs. I LOVE this and think I could actually replicate it! Thanks for this idea!!!
ReplyDeleteI found your sight via Craftzine.com. In the same day they had an app for Ipad that allowed the use of virtual wood blocks. Made me wonder if you could have used your creation to work as stamp to make paint or ink dinos for others.
