Distressed Farm Sign

 We are getting settled in our 'new' home and I decided to take a break from painting kitchen cabinets and make some kitchen art:-)
What better for my soon to by farmhouse kitchen than a distressed sign!

AND actually once I get the hubby to build me a chicken coop...
I will have FARM FRESH EGGS!
This sign took me less than an hour to make...it was soo simple!

I used a cedar fence post these are about $1 at Home Depot
Cardboard letters from Hobby Lobby {$4}
2 metal stars from Hobby Lobby {$3ea. @ 50% off}
Some black and white craft paint and a piece of sand paper.
 I laid out my letter placement and this 5 ft fence post
was just about perfect! Hobby Lobby also sells smaller size letters if you would prefer to use a small piece of wood.
I did think about using my vinegar steel wool treatment but decided I would do a white wash....just brush on a thin coat of water with a few drops of white paint mixed together.
 I traced the cardboard letters....
so much easier/faster than the freezer paper stencil
I used to make for my telephone sign.
 Let than 10 minutes to get it all traced.......
 Then I used some black paint and a small brush....
 and filled in the lines!
 Now I just let it dry and then rubbed it down with some sandpaper and attached to stars
See the slight distressing??
And yes very soon this kitchen WILL HAVE farm fresh eggs:-)
Check out all the places I party!

  5. Beautiful sign! Love how quick you pulled it together. Did you see the July/Aug issue of Country Living and their beautiful chicken coop? Gorgeous! I ripped the article out and sent it to my chicken-raising friend. don't know if you can find it online? In the mag. it was on p. 60...The Ultimate Chicken Coop. Good luck with those chickens!

  11. How cute! And how smart to just trace the letters! Your sign looks great!

    My daughter used to work in a grocery store that had signs on the walls near things people would look for, like eggs. Only it said EEGS. No one pointed that out in the 18 years it was up, until she did!
