I want a little reading area in my Master Bedroom...
I really want a BIG comfy chair to read stories to my son.
But right now that's not in the budget so I'm am making do with a $5 Thrift Store chair that I re painted and gave the seat some new fabric.
Here is the dreadful before...............I bought this fabric at Wal-Mart for around $6 a yard.
My plan was to make pillows for my bed but
decided to use it to recover this chair.
My Facebook friends all voted for the black fabric
so that's what I used.
Now I don't own a sewing machine....yet
And a re-upholstery project seems also impossible to me but this was surprising very easy and I only used a heavy duty stapler.
I unscrewed the arms and seat.
I gave it a good once over with the sander
and then a couple of coats of black paint.
(you can also see a glimpse of the soon to be side table and bookshelf
I will be making using concrete forms)
The seat was rotten so I just traced it on some wafer board and cut a new piece......I then just stapled my batting and fabric to the board
Probaly not the proper way but it worked and who really sees the underneath. Besides it's just a temporary chair.
My 'new' chair matches perfect with my master bedroom color scheme.
Stay tuned for the bookcase and side table:-)
Check out all the places I party!

Oh my gosh, great job! I love it! It doesn't even look like the same chair anymore! Those colors are pretty spiffy too ;)
I love that! The fabric is amazing -- Can't believe you snagged it at Wal-Mart! =] My favorite color is green so you know I'm lovin' your room!
My mom has been doing this kind of stuff for years. I once painted and stenciled on a rocking chair, but nothing since. Your chair and the whole room are just lovely.
The chair just needed a face lift...or would that be a seat lift? Looks great.
Hello Michell! Greetings from the Philippines! I discovered your blog from Paisley Passions.
I love what you did to the chair. It turned out so posh and beautiful.
I hope we could develop a connection by following each others blogs. :)
Wishing you more happiness!

Wow! What a transformation! Love how you took something old and made it look so pretty and new!
Been working on a few small projects like this myself
For just a few $$, I think it looks amazing. I'm not usually a fan of green, but I really like the colors in the fabric that you used. Well done!
The chair turned out great. I can't wait to see the bedside table. Great job!
Love it. I love before and afters. Thanks so much for linking up. See you at the party next week.
Wow! Fabulous! I just redid my dining room chairs, isn't it great how easy it is to do a chair like that? I like the instant gratification projects! Can't wait to see what's next!
This chair is fabulous! I love how quick and easy it was. I probably wouldn't have bothered doing anything with the underneath either. :)
That fabric could not be more perfect for your bedroom and you did a fabulous job on the chair! Thanks so much for linking this up to Inspiration Friday this week!

I just found your blog and am your newest follower. This re-do is amazing (as is your bedroom). Thanks for creating such an amazing blog full of so many tips and lots of inspiration.
Your chair came out awesome! You know, I've been needing chairs to go with my hand-crafted dining room table. And I've seen so many really great thrift store chair re-do's online that I've decided to save the hundreds of dollars for matching chairs and make an assortment of thrift store gems. Thanks for sharing yours. :)
PERFECT for your bedroom! Everything look amazing.
So impressed! The chair was great your room is perfect.
Great job! I am just starting out my re-upholstery project.... I hope mine will turn out as well as yours! :)

That chair looks awesome. I love that you took off the arms as well. Great job. Girl you need a sewing machine. If you got one your would tear it up you are so talented.
BTW- I can't believe your Walmart sales such cute material. Ours stinks...
Thank you so much for linking up to my Strictly Homemade Tuesday Party. I hope you will join me again next Tuesday!
Wow that's a great "after"! We recently discovered the wonders a staple gun can do with recovering chairs, watch out it can become addictive! I just got fabric for all my kitchen chairs, good-bye stained seats!
I just did a post of two chairs that I redid for my daughter's apartment. You chair looks great but am wondering why you chose to not use the arms of the chair. Were they broken?
I want to redo an old telephone seat I got 4 free on Freecycle.com and I am wondering what TYPE of paint to use, not the color but what type, shiny or flat? thank u and great job.
