I wish someone would have shown me how to make homemade baby food 18 years ago when my daughters where young. I'm glad I have the chance to do this for my new little one.
Thank you Marianne for coming over and showing me how cheap, easy and fun it is to make homemade baby food for my son.

Here is what I made:
Apples, Prunes, Bannanas
Green Beans, Broccoli, Spinach, Mixed Veggies, Carrots, Pears, Avocado and more Bananas. I bought most of these items at Sam's Club. This spring I'm hoping to start a garden and shop my local Farmer's Market for some yummy veggies.
Here's what I used: Ice trays, knife and cutting board, blender/Magic Bullet, foil and freezer bags. Those are sweet potatos. For any potato/squash type veggie that is done in the oven, wrap in foil and bake until tender
A pot for boiling or steaming. I steamed most the veggies and boiled most the fruit. You can steam or boil all, just use which ever method works best for you.
Before I started I made sure I sterilized all the ice trays and washed all the fruits and vegetables. Counters and hands all washed and clean.
I cut up the apples and pears and boiled them until they were soft. I left the skins on, it's my favorite part and the most nutritious. I also saved the 'juice' from the fruit for my son.
I steamed the prunes. I put water in the bottom of this pot, put on a lid and steamed until the prunes were soft to the touch. He loves prunes and they really help him poo when he's having a little trouble.
I steamed grean beans, carrots and spinach. I saved all the water from the bottom of the pan to be added when blending and for veggie juice for my son.
I don't have a standard size blender but my magic bullet worked very well. I added a little water then pureed. You can adjust the amount of water you use to your child's needs. My son doesn't have teeth yet so I used a little more water to make softer food. I didn't add water to the bannanas, pears or avocado because these foods are already soft. Some veggies and fruits need more/less water. You will be able to tell as you blend if you need more or less water.
My magic bullet blended all the foods so smooth.
Once you have blended to the texture you like, fill the ice trays. and cover with plastic wrap. Then freeze over night,
I had a little left over so I filled a couple jars for the next days feedings and put in the frig. DO NOT freeze in glass jars.
The next day I put all the cubes in freezer bags, labeled and dated. These keep for 3 months in the freezer and 6 months in a deep freezer. More info on freezing guidelines HERE
Here is my son's dinner....applesauce, sweet potatoes and cereal. I try to take out a day's feeding ahead of time to save me from heating in the microwave.
I spend about $30 on this food and 2 hours in the kitchen. I made months worth of fresh food for pennies. I love that I know my son is eating foods with nothing extra added but lots of LOVE. I might start eating this way too for nice portion contral meals..........
BEFORE
Before I couldn't get my son to feed the store bought stuff. He would rather eat the packaging.

Wow! I'm impressed! You make it seem SOO easy too! Almost makes me wish I had a baby I could make such healthy food for. This is an awesome tutorial for any Mom wanting to give her baby the healthiest foods possible.
BTW, I am loving your pots. They look so sturdy. Are they those expensive All Clad? That's the brand I would love to have in my kitchen, but they're so pricey.
Thank you Idalia...I'm very lazy most days and don't like to do things that take up too much time...but this is easy easy...and saves a TON of money
My pots are the Wolfgang Puck series from Sam's Club.
Good thing we do Swagbucks now...I'm gonna buy some nice new dishes on Amazon with my free gift cards:)
Thanks for the tutorial...I will be visiting again when it is time to feed my baby foods. Following from MBC!
Thanks, Michelle. I'm gonna be on the lookout for them next time I go to Sam's. Good to know.
Thank you for posting this! My little one is 4 months and I want to make all of her food when I introduce solids to her in a couple months. This is a great tutorial. How easy!!
WOw! This is great! I always wanted to do this with my daughter when she was a baby but it seemed too overwhelming. You have condensed this just enough to seem possible for me. If we ever get this baby #3 we ar trying for, I will attept this. Thanks. Following from MBC!
the after picture is priceless! both my daughters eat homemade food. although I can't really take credit for that, my mom watch them during the day and she blend them fruits and veggies so I pretty stop leaving them food since my mom is gonna feed them her purees. If I try to feed them anything from a can they go eeelck! It is so much better! I spend around $34 at the farmer's market and they got food for a while. so much cheaper than gerber jars.
I am following you from MBC :-)
