Making Pots for my Herb Garden

HAPPY ST. PATTY'S DAY!
Today I am wearing my GREEN thumb...
Well....I want so bad to have a GREEN thumb!
Just when I think I do, something dies...
I bought more seeds to replace my last herbs that died.
But this time I decided to make a nice place for them to grow
and just maybe they would LOVE their new pots so much they would thrive!!!

Here are my seeds waiting to be planted and a pencil cactus that needs to be repotted.
First I tried just chalk....
But it just wasn't enough....plus when watered, the water soaks thru the clay pot and washes right off
Then I remembered I had some left over chalkboard paint from another project...
I'm frugal and like to use what I have or can get for free.
I bought these at Hobby Lobby and used their 40% off coupon that's in their weekly ad and only paid around $3. This is also sold at Wal-Mart and  on Amazon.
Tape the pots how you want them..I think circles would look neat too.
My first attempt was with the spray paint.
I didn't get the tape sealed tight enough.
I don't mind a 'not perfect' look but this was too messy.
DO OVER!! So I retaped and repainted..
Much better! Now time to plant!!
Yea!! I found more pots laying around. I pick up pots whenever I spot them at my local thirft store.
This time I used the pint paint. I liked it so much better than the spray.
I also have seen this done on another blog with glass pots and it looked amazing too.
Check out White House, Black Shutters I LOVE her blog!
I can't wait to watch these grow...and if I happen to lose one, I will erase the chalk and write R.I.P!
All the left over seeds I planted into one big pot.....

I loved how these turned out at a cost of next to nothing. You can also use this same concept with any pot and with dry erase paint instead of chalkboard paint and fill pots with all sorts of things. The possibilities are endless from pens, pencils, baby items, LOVE, LAUGH, LIVE, to your house numbers!

What a great inexpensive gift to make and give to that someone special!

I wish I had a green thumb! Unfortunately everything I tried to grow doesn't survive more that a few months. This year, I do plan on giving it another try! Just dropping in from MBC
