DIY Faux Wainscoting

We are finally in our NEW home......
I have been blog stalking for months for design ideas...
The DIY Faux Wainscoting post at
was the inspiration for my wall

BEFORE
AFTER

I love the look of wainscoting!
I wanted my wainscoting to match all the windows
in this one big room.
So I went to Home Depot and got six 10ft ($7) 1x4's that I had them cut in half  and one 16ft ($9) 1x6 also cut in half.
I LOVE that Home Depot will make my cuts for me!
Also I got a 13 1/2 ft (.62cents an inch) 1x1
Laid it all out just to be sure I would like this layout.
The hubby did all the math to make sure it was evenly spaced and used a piece of cut wood as a spacer.
Wood Glue
The glue slides so a couple of nails just to hold boards in place
This is the decorative 1x1 to match the windows.
See?
Thanks honey!
Perfectly spaced!
Fill nail holes, sand and paint!
Took about 3 coats of paint.
Hmmm....I like but think I need to change the top color.
Much better!
I LOVE it!

Stay tuned for my Alphabet Wall:-)

My husband would LOVE this, wainscoting is something he's always liked in home decor.

Love is on the walls!! I'm doing this on my walls this month, if it's the last thing I do!!! If I may be so bold-you may already plan to add this later-I would definately pop up some crown molding for a finishing touch. -K

I LOVE this look. Such a great idea and you did a fantastic job with this wall. I don't really have a place to do this in our house now... but when we move, I'm totally stealing this idea. It rocks.

Thanks so much for sharing!

Great job! I have been wanting to do this in my house FOREVER, but our walls are heavily textured and I don't think it would looks so good with the texture on the bottom.... Any ideas?

Christy said...

I love your blog. Like you, I have been collecting ideas to make my house a home. I was really inspired by your faux wainscotting wall. I have compiled a post on my blog of all of my favorite ideas and I have featured you and your post there.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Good job! Looks so great! I noticed that your walls are textured similar to mine. When you painted the board and batten white, did you smooth out that texture at all or did you leave it alone? I want to do my living room, but I'm not sure how the textured wall through the board and batten will look.
