Re-Furbished Toddler Bed

027
I have been working on my son’s room…..
I can’t wait for it to be done and show you all the BIG reveal!
But for now here’s his ‘new’ bed!
Remember the bed I did before…HERE
image
I purchased 2 bed frames on Craigslist earlier this year…
I had planned on making a bench out of one but had a change of plans.
I sold this bed and re furnished the other for my son’s room.
022
BEFORE
Both the beds had some damage and needed to be patched and sanded….
I use Elmer’s wood filler in the grooves and sanded smooth.
035
I then painted 2 coats of Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint in Primer Red!
I have tried all the homemade formula’s going around but
NOTHING compares to the REAL stuff!
This frugal girl knows this paint it’s worth every penny!!
042
And there she is with 2 coats of Primer Red….
No need to prime or sand…just PAINT!
This paint dries very fast so in less that an hour this bed is painted!
048
Since I have the worst handwriting in the world….
I used my trusty projector to trace my quote!
052
Since this IS chalk paint and acts as a chalk board before it’s waxed…
I simply used a piece of chalk to trace the quote.
055
and here it is written in chalk and ready to paint!
I also added a moon and a few starsSmile
057
I used ASCP in Old White to paint the quote, stars and moon.
060
I actually was just gonna leave it all white and distress and wax it…
but a friend suggested I paint the moon and stars in bright colors..
so I did!!
065
OMG! Isn’t it FABULOUS!!
Thank you for the wonderful suggestion Rafael!
I used ASCP’s in Arles for the stars and Aubusson for the moon.
017
I then sanded to whole bed….
some people use clear wax before sanding but that’s just a preference.
Waxing first eliminates chalk dust BUT also fills your sand paper with wax.
020
See the chalk dust??
I just sanded a few areas so the beautiful wood peeked through…
028
oh and I added a few stars to the foot board too..
I used Annie Sloan's clear wax on the whole bed…..
Oh how I wish you could feel the softness of this bed after it’s waxed!
It feels and looks like it came from a VERY expensive store!

My sweet boy LOVES his ‘new’ bed!
Check out all the places I party!

Absolutely darling Michell! I love the colors and the details on it are so perfect. :-) You are so creative and what a lucky boy to be on the receiving end of his mommy's talent! Thanks for sharing it with us at Inspiration Friday!
