It's this the Cutest Hat Ever??!!???
Let's make one.....
Pick your favorite Black and Orange yarn....
I like working with 100% cotton so I use the Sugar'n Cream
plus it's only $1.47 at Wal-Mart
MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarnSize H (5.0 mm) crochet hook ( I used a Size I for a larger hat)
Yarn needle (for attaching flower)
SIZES: Newborn 16 inch
Toddler 18 inch
I recently learned how to start each hat with a Magic Circle...this allows you to make your starting hole as tight as possible....you can learn this too.....HERE
Round 1: Starting with the Black make a Magic Circle or Ch 3 12 dc in 3rd chain from hook. Join with slipstitch in top of first dc
[12 dc]
Round 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each dc around. Join with slipstitch in top of first dc. [24 dc]
Round 3: Ch 2, *dc in next st, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from * around. Join with slipstitch in top of first dc. [36 dc]
Round 4: Ch 2, *dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from * around. Join with slipstitch in top of first dc. [48 dc]
For 16 inch hat, skip to Round 7.
Round 5: Ch 2, *dc in 7 dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join with slipstitch in top of first dc. [54 dc]
Round 6: Ch 2, dc in each dc around. Join with slipstitch in top of first dc.
Fasten off. [54 dc]
Round 7: Join Orange color with a slipstitch in join, ch 3, 2 dc in same st. *Skip 2 dc, 3 dc in next st. Repeat from * around.
Round 8-11: Ch 3, 2 dc in same space. *Skip 3 dc, 3 dc in next space. Repeat from * around. Fasten off.
Round 12: Join Black color with a slipstitch in top of any dc, ch 1, sc in each dc around. Join with a slipstitch in top of first sc.
Round 13: Ch 3, 1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in same sc. *Skip 3 sc, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join with a slipstitch in top of ch 3. Fasten off
Flower:
Flowers are so fun to make....because just like in life all flowers have different size/shape petals so you can't make a mistake!!
YouTube is a great place to learn how to crochet all kinds of flowers! This is also a great site for other FREE crochet flowers patterns HERE Find your favorite...:
Here's mine:
Start with the color you want on top of your flower....
Ch 3 join..
SC 6-8 (depending on how many petals you want) in loop
Petals
In each SC : Slip stitch, ch1, 2 double crochet, ch 1 slip stitch.
You can change this up however you like....if you ch 2 instead of 1, it changes the shade of the petal making it rounder. Also if you double crochet more it makes a bigger petal.
To add another layer behind flower....
Slip Stitch behind petal....Ch 2, slip stitch behind next petal around.
This gives you a place to crochet the next set of petals.
Change color if you want, I like to make a bigger petal behind a smaller petal...
Slip Stitch in Ch 2 space, Ch2, 5 DC, Ch2, Slip Stitch. Around
Fasten off and leave about 12 inches of tail.
Take your yarn needle and thread tail and attach flower.
I hope that all made sense!! This hat takes me about 1-2 hours to make...so plenty of time for Halloween:-)
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Hey from a fellow Sheridanite! A friend just directed me to your Halloween hat and I love it. I'll be making one soon. :-) I'm wondering if you would give me permission to use your pattern to make hats to sell. I'm gearing up for the bazaar in November and would love to use it.

I'm looking for an email link to you. Guess I need to dig up my reading glasses and read all the little buttons. So, much interesting stuff. Love the Halloween hat, but Caron sent me over to you to look for a pattern for a Jack hat. Am I in the right place?
so cute but i'm having problems. Im new to crocheting and when I get to rows 7-11 my hat keeps getting smaller and smaller. Am I connecting with a slip stich at the end of each row like the previous rows? dont know what i'm doing wrong. help??
Oh my! I can't imagine what you might be doing wrong...these are just shells....so crochet 3 dc in each 3rd ch around then crochet 3 dc in each area in between each shell you just made...make sense??
I get confused too...if I stare at a picture long enough it will finally make sense to me..LOL
thanks! i might just be tired also. I'll try again tomorrow. Love your stuff!

I love this pattern! I enlarged it and made two for granddaughter's recent fourth birthday, one in pink and apple green, and the other in lavender and white. I am now working on a black and orange one for Halloween. This pattern is a keeper! Thanks!
Very cute hat pattern! Thanks for sharing. :)
I just found this pattern, and I LOVE it! I've already made 2, and people at work are requesting more. We live in Savannah, and moms tell me you can't find beanie hats for little people in the stores. Hopefully I'll rake in some $$ this year making them.
Ever think of converting the pattern to an adult size? I can crochet, but can't change patterns to fit different sizes.
Thanks!
Penny
OH I wish I understood this! haha. Such a cute hat. Wish I lived closer so you could teach me how to crochet. ;) Thanks for linking up for my very first party!!!
Precious pattern...thanks for sharing. Can you clarify how to dc in same stitch as you increase rows 8-11? Do you have 5 dc in each new row?
Thanks! I love the pattern but just keep messing up the 1st stich of rows 8-11!
Love your patterns!! Did you ever post the abby cadabby one? Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for posting this free pattern. I plan on tweaking it to fit a preemie. I am starting a "Beanies for Preemies" project where I make and donate hats to the NICU. Check out my blog.
