How to Make a GIANT Ruler

124
Not sure why….but I have a thing for OVERSIZED décor!
Just check out all my other very OVERSIZED projects:
I might NEED a GIANT intervention!
BUT……
I think this GIANT ruler goes perfect with my GIANT pencil!
I got a request from a customer to make a GIANT ruler…..it just so happen that I had a 1x12 sitting in my garage for the signs I’ve been adding to my Etsy Shop.
062
I used my sliding compound miter saw to cut a 1x12 to 6 feet long.
065
Items for this project are black paint, stain { my trusty vinegar/steel wool solution}, sander, a stencil and poly to seal.
068
I made a stencil with my Silhouette using contact paper.
I just worked with 6 inches at a time because it was easier….
070
Then I dabbed on black paint with a sponge.
081
Then I just kept moving my stencil down my board……I also overlapped one painted line to keep it even down the board.
074
If you happen to make a mistake, just sand the area and paint again……I wanted this ruler to be a true height measurement so I made sure that every foot was 12 inches apart.
083
I cut out some fat fun numbers…..as per my customers request and sponged on black paint.
088
Now….this looks nice and you could stop here if you wanted….but my customer wanted a distressed stain look…..
094
So….I used my palm sander to sand the whole board…I LOVE how it spread the black paint around, adding to the aged distress look.
099
Then I painted on my vinegar/steel wool stain.
I love the look this solution gives wood.
110
Then I used my palm sander again to distress the edges.
121
AND finally two coats of poly to seal the whole sign….I used satin.

Thank you so much for stopping by!
