Homemade Finger Paint

I will cherish this painting FOREVER!!

Who knew homemade Finger Paint was sooo easy to make?
Oh what FUN we had!

I found a site that had 3 easy recipes...HERE
I used the Cornstarch recipe.
Water {3C}, Cornstarch{1C} and Food Coloring
In a medium saucepan, bring water to a boil.  Dissolve cornstarch in a separate bowl with water.   Remove boiling water from heat and add cornstarch mixture.  Return to heat, stirring constantly.  Boil until the mixture is clear and thick (about 1 minute).  Remove from heat.
As the mixture is cooling, divide into separate bowls and add food coloring.
Cook, seperate and color.
I used containers with lids for easy storage and future use. Then I later found these at the $1! Perfect for fingerpaint!
We painted on washable mats for easy clean up.
 He painted on a canvas......
 He painted on Freezer Paper......
 He painted himself......
Until he had the perfect masterpiece!
We didn't even make that big of a mess:-)
Ready for Daddy's office.
I added a photo and hung in the hubby's office!

Freezer Paper Stencil Shirt

I'm so excited that one of my FAVORITE blogs I Am Momma Hear Me Roar
Is having a Boys T-shirt Contest!!

I Am Momma Hear Me Roar
This contest gave me the perfect opportunity to create a shirt for my son
and she even provides the perfect tutorial for freezer paper stenciling
Just what I needed since I don't own a sewing machine or one of those fancy Cricut or Silhouette machines.....YET
I must be living in a cave because I have NEVER seen this done......I watched her great video and had no problem creating the cutest shirt!

I used a .50 cent thrift store shirt, freezer paper, iron, fabric paint, craft knife, printed image from internet, burlap and wonder under.

I printed off my words and placed it under the freezer paper.
I used a craft knife to cut out the words.
I didn't have any navy so I mixed black and blue together
to get the perfect navy that matched the collar of the shirt.
Ironed the freezer paper shiny side down and painted the words.

Next I cut out a Dino image out of burlap and Wonder-Under.
(Wonder-Under is an adhesive web that turns any fabric into a fusible fabric.
I purchased it at Wal-Mart for $2 a yard.)

I ironed on the burlap Dino applique and painted a few dots.
Then I used the same freezer paper technique to cut out
the rest of the words and painted.

And I know the perfect BIG BOY-a-saurus for this shirt.....
if I only could get a good picture of him:-)

$5 Thrift Store Chair

I want a little reading area in my Master Bedroom...
I really want a BIG comfy chair to read stories to my son.
But right now that's not in the budget so I'm am making do with a $5 Thrift Store chair that I re painted and gave the seat some new fabric.
 Here is the dreadful before...............
I bought this fabric at Wal-Mart for around $6 a yard.
My plan was to make pillows for my bed but
decided to use it to recover this chair.
My Facebook friends all voted for the black fabric
so that's what I used.

Now I don't own a sewing machine....yet
And a re-upholstery project seems also impossible to me but this was surprising very easy and I only used a heavy duty stapler.
I unscrewed the arms and seat.
I gave it a good once over with the sander
and then a couple of coats of black paint.
(you can also see a glimpse of the soon to be side table and bookshelf
I will be making using concrete forms)
The seat was rotten so I just traced it on some wafer board and cut a new piece......I then just stapled my batting and fabric to the board
Probaly not the proper way but it worked and who really sees the underneath. Besides it's just a temporary chair.
My 'new' chair matches perfect with my master bedroom color scheme.
Stay tuned for the bookcase and side table:-)

Map Coasters

I LOVE maps!!
I have a map painted in my entry!
I also use maps to wrap gifts and decoupage old frames.....
and here's another use for old maps....Coasters!
I used this technique years ago with photos of my kids and their art work.
This is so fun and easy!!

Here is what you need:
Map, Coasters, Scissors and Glue or Mod Podge.
This is so simple....
I used 4 coasters...actually they are plant mats that I wasn't using and were sitting in my junk drawer.
I always pick up old maps at the thrift store to use as gift wrapping...
I got a box full for $2!
Trace a circle on your map and cut out with scissors or a craft knife.
Put a thin layer of Mod Podge on back of map circle. Smooth out any air bubbles. Then paint a few layers of Mod Podge over top...this provides a hard coating...I used glossy Mod Podge...but Matte would work well too.
Aren't they Pretty!!

Enjoy!!

Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil Giveaway

I LOVE this stuff!!!
I love the SMELL, TASTE and TEXTURE.
I can't say enough about it.....I became familiar with Tropical Traditions Cocunut Oil about a year ago when I won a giveaway.
I was so shocked how BETTER is was than the stuff I had been using....I could NEVER go back.
I use it on my toast instead of butter...YUMMY.
For added flavor I use it instead of Olive Oil.
Once day I ran out of olive oil for my green beans and added some Coconut Oil and HOLY Yummy!! It was DElish!!
I also use it on my dry skin....I went through a phase for awhile were I wouldn't put anything on my skin that I wouldn't eat.
Now I can't tell you all the benefits me and my son who suffers from eczema get because I don't want the
FDA to come and shut down my little craft blog...
I'm just sayin I LOVE it and couldn't Live without it.

Lucky Penny Necklace

I'm so excited to share how to make a
LUCKY Penny Necklace

Here is everything you will need.

Punch and Die Set with Doming Block
I got this one at Harbor Freight using their 20% off coupon for $28

A Letter Stamping Set
I splurged on a nice set from Beaducation $165
but I have also purchased a standard set at
Harbor Freight or Home Depot for $4-$10

A Necklace and Jump Ring
I purchased mine at Hobby Lobby
Every other week they are half off so watch for the sales!

A Penny, Rubbing Alcohol, Sharpie, Pliers, Hammer and Drill.

I marked each penny with a sharpie, placed it in a vise grip and drilled a hole with the hubby's drill press.
I used a 5/84 bit it will close a little when you dome the penny so any smaller and you might not be able to get your jump ring through the hole
I always start with the center letter and work my way out.
Note: I only have a lower case set from Beaduction
so I used my Home Depot upper case set for the letter L.
Use sharpie to fill in letters and wipe clean with rubbing alcohol.
Now you can stop here and make a necklace....or you can dome it.
You can dome penny upside or downside.
Use the different pens for different shapes.
It's really fun to play around.....
Just a few hits with a hammer and you have a nice domed penny.
You can also make earrings.
Copper color necklace set from Hobby Lobby
Use Pliers to attach the jump ring.
A LUCKY penny necklace perfect for St Patrick's Day

Now have you heard of whoopdwhoop?
It's a currency free creative marketplace.
You swap items with other creative people
It' FREE, EASY and FUN.
Last night I listed this Penny Necklaces for 4 whoops
and within the hour 2 people 'bought'  it!!
In exchange I used my whoops to purchase this
Texas notepad pendant
AND
 This jean tote bag!!!

I'm am loving this concept...
